Pomfret, CT: Tyrone Farm

The Mobile Trio: Kenwood Dennard, Ben Schwendener, Marc Friedman

With Special Guest Sara Azriel

Friday April 25th 8pm $20
Tyrone Farm Pomfret, CT

Hello Friends! We are so excited to be back after a long and relentless winter. On Friday April 25th at 8pm you are invited to join us for a musical tour de force. Following some impassioned musical interaction, The Mobile Trio, featuring Kenwood Dennard, Ben Shwendener, and Marc Friedman has come into existence. These three musicians play music of the highest caliber and we are honored that they have chosen Tyrone to host their first public performance. We don't often host evening performances, so we encourage you to put this event in your calendar for a completely new and exhilarating ensemble. These are MONSTROUS players.

Kenwood Dennard: Drums, Professor of Percussion at Berklee College of Music

Kenwood has played with the likes of Jaco Pastorius, Wayne Shorter, John Scofield, Ray Barretto, Harry Belafonte, and Art Blakey. Some cite Kenwood’s work with Maceo Parker as definitive or perhaps Brand X, while others point to his work with the likes of George Clinton, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Gil Evans, Luther Vandross, Grover Washington, and Joe Zawinul. To say the least, Kenwood Dennard has slipped transparently into incredibly diverse musical situations. In 1997, Dennard moved to Boston and took advantage of the rich musical scene, playing with many more huge artists. He also became a respected educator, returning to Berklee College as a full-time associate professor. A good many of his students have gone on to starring roles. Examples include Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin and Wood), Richie Morales (Spyro Gyra), Marvin “Smitty” Smith (Branford Marsalis, The Jay Leno Show), Zac Alford (B-52s), Will Calhoun (Living Colour), and the late Tony Thompson, drummer for Chic and The Power Station.

Ben Schwendener: Keys, Professor at New England Conservatory of Music

Ben Schwendener sustains a unique voice in creative music and pedagogy, and is a leading authority on George Russell’s Lydian Chromatic Concept.
A critically acclaimed pianist/composer, he has written for numerous ensembles, dance and film, and performs in the U.S. and internationally. Schwendener has released eight CDs to date, and published 2 volumes of original works for piano and ensemble.
He is currently on the faculty of the New England Conservatory, the Longy School of Music of Bard College, the Rivers School Conservatory and UMass Boston’s Creative and Critical Thinking department. Ben also directs Gravity Arts, Inc., a Boston-based non-profit organization.

Ben Schwendener | Composer, Pianist, Educator

Marc Friedman: Bass, Professor of Fretted and Fretless Wizardry

Marc is currently touring with the band American Babies and is renowned as one third of the avante-rock power trio The Slip and a member of the band Surprise Me Mr. Davis as well as Big Light. He has recorded seven full-length albums with The Slip. Marc is a co-arranger/producer/writer of the band's material along with the other two members, Brad and Andrew Barr. His bass playing with The Slip (formed ca. 1995) has been regarded by most as widely influential and purely creative. Technical prowess with mature restraint and acute improvisational skills are part of Marc's best known musical traits.
